From staff reports

APEX -- A Wake County teacher remains suspended with pay more than a month after she was removed from the classroom over Facebook comments made about her students, Christianity and the South.

Melissa Hussain, an eighth-grade science teacher at West Lake Middle School near Apex, has been suspended since Feb. 12 following parental complaints about her Facebook page. School officials said Tuesday that the district is still investigating.

Hussain wrote on thesocial-networking site that it was a "hate crime" that students anonymously left a Bible on her desk, and she told how she "was able to shame the kids" over the incident.

Hussain, a Wake County teacher since 2006, has a salary of $32,640.
