Fishing Report

Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Offshore boats went out on Monday and caught bluefin tuna and yellowfin tuna. There was one bigeye tuna caught last week, the first of the year. Striped bass may have left for the season. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

With temperatures forecast in the 70s, warm water should turn on the puppy drum, blowfish, bluefish, sea mullet and speckled trout. Contact: Frank & Fran's 252-995-4171; www.hatteras-island.com; offshore news, Oden's Dock 252-986-2555.

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

On Ocracoke, a few puppy drum were caught Wednesday morning. Contact: Tradewinds Bait & Tackle 252-928-5491, www.fishtradewinds.com.

Cape Lookout/

Bogue Inlet

Speckled trout appear to have left the creeks, but flounder and red drum are biting. Offshore, blackfin tuna and wahoo have been caught. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; www.ncwaterman.com; or www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

Red drum were biting on the shoals, as well as in the creeks, where there also are a few black drum. Sea View and Jolly Roger piers opened, but only a few sea mullet have been reported. Wilmington/

Wrightsville Beach

Inshore, the red drum are in the creeks and on the beach, as are a few black drum and speckled trout. Offshore, black sea bass and king mackerel are about 20 miles out. In the Gulf Stream, wahoo, African pompano, cobia and blackfin tuna have been reported. Contact: Tex's Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/

Sunset Beach

A couple of red drum and speckled trout have been reported in the backwaters of the creeks. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; or www.oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Largemouth bass have turned on, with fish up to 10 pounds reported. They're up on main lake points. Crappie are on the deep brush piles at the mouths of the creek channels. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 252.85, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Kerr Lake

Crappie have improved in the backs of the creeks. Largemouth bass have improved, with a lot of 2-pounders being reported. Striped bass are mostly shallow up on the points with the largemouth. Jordan Lake

Crappie have been reported on the north end of the lake in shallow water. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 217.09, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Lake Wheeler

Over the weekend, largemouth bass activity picked up, with some 5- and 6-pound fishreported. A few 2-pound crappie were caught. Contact: park office 919-662-5704

Shearon Harris Lake

Largemouth bass are taking lipless crankbaits and Texas-rigged plastics in water 3 to 6 feet deep. Crappie also are biting. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.

Roanoke River

Only a few hickory shad have showed up in Weldon, but the fish should arive soon. White perch are still thick and have been caught on the bottom with red wigglers. Contact: Colston's Tackle Box 252-537-6485.
