DURHAM -- Police have charged Rashaun Lamont Mason with murder in the shooting death of a man Tuesday.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South Alston Avenue near Linwood Avenue about 3:15 p.m. They found an injured woman and were told a man had been shot inside Evans Mini Mart at 710 S. Alston Ave. Daniel Evans, 25, of Raleigh, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to a witness, the woman was injured during a fight. After the altercation, several men chased Evans across the street and into the convenience store, where he was shot, police said. The woman was taken to Duke Hospital for treatment of injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Officers arrested Mason, 22, of Naples Place, early Wednesday in the 900 block of Massey Avenue. He was charged with murder and is in the Durham County jail without bail.

Investigators are also trying to identify a man wanted for questioning in this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 560-4440, ext. 29335 or Crime Stoppers at 683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers don't have to identify themselves.
