Greg Elkins has been playing guitar in rock bands for decades now. But he's a relative newcomer to pedal-steel guitar, his instrument in Starmount, which plays incredibly cool instrumental music.
"I was drawn by the same thing that draws everybody," Elkins says. "I just love the sound of the thing. I always had an affinity for it, an inclination that it fit certain sonic needs I had. I don't want to sound like I think I can do anything with it that other people can't. But it does lend itself to forms of expression not commonly associated with the instrument."
"Tyranny of the Sphere" is a collection of moody soundscapes with a rhythmic pulse, suitable for cinematic intrigue. One could imagine the music turning up on the soundtrack for a David Lynch film, invoking an atmosphere of interstellar menace.
