A two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 40 between I-540 and Airport Boulevard has left one person dead and backed up traffic for several miles.
The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. and blocked two of four lanes. One of the vehicles, a car, was overturned. Responders removed a body from that car.
The state Highway Patrol has not released additional information about the accident, including the name of the person who was killed.
Westbound I-40 traffic was slowed as well near Airport Boulevard, but all lanes remained open.
