The Obamas landed in Asheville (pop. 76,000) shortly after 1 p.m. today for their weekend away in the mountains.
According to the unofficial press pool report sent to Washington reporters, the couple descended the planeÂ’s stairs holding hands, Barb Barrett reports.
President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are expected to stay at the Grove Park Inn, a resort known for its spa, its golf course and an outdoor terrace that overlooks the mountains.
There was also this tidbit from the pool report:
"(Press Secretary Bill) Burton asked the pool to respect the first couple's privacy this weekend as they vacation, particularly the photogs."
