RALEIGH -- A Raleigh police car and an ambulance dashing to the scene of a shooting early Saturday crashed into each other at Creech Road and Slippery Elm Drive.
"They were rushing and just kind of turned at the same time, police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan said.
Both drivers were taken to WakeMed and treated for minor injuries, she said.
It was unclear whether either would be charged in the accident.
The shooting victim, Henry Campos of Raleigh, also was taken to WakeMed with a gunshot wound to his left leg.
Campos was walking with another person on Basswood Drive just before 1 a.m. when a car pulled up and three people got out, two armed with handguns, while the driver stayed in the car, Hourigan said.
The two victims ran, and the would-be robbers fired at them, she said, hitting Campos, before jumping back in the car and fleeing.
Officers already in the area spotted the car, stopped it and arrested four Raleigh residents: Dondre Tavarius Glover, 21; Treveris Montel Coward, 18; Wayre Dyron Mitchell, 20; and Joneka Aime Glover, 21.
Each was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, two counts of attempted robbery, one count of firing into an occupied dwelling, and one count of damage to private property, Hourigan said.
