Robert “Bob” Henry Bridges, 87, of Hamlet, died Thursday, May 13, 2010. He was born April 7, 1923, the son of the late William Staley and Nonnie Smith Bridges in Wake Co, NC. He attended NCSU, completed radio school in Chicago, Illinois and was retired from Seaboard Railroad where he worked for 33 years as a communication maintainer. Bob served honorably in the Army Aircorps as a Technical Sargeant during WWII where he was a radio operator, mechanic and gunner. He was a den mother, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet, loved growing roses and was a “Jack of all Trades” who enjoyed helping everyone.

Survivors include his children, Debbie Canfield of Hamlet, NC, Diane Weaver and husband Griffin Driggers of McColl, SC, and Rob Bridges of Charlotte, NC; and grandson, Kyle Weaver of Greenville, NC.

Services will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 2 PM, officiated by Chaplain Col. Joseph C. Matthews, USAF, Ret., in the Wynne Center of Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. Family will receive friends following the service at a light reception in the Wynne Center.

Memorial Contributions in Bob’s memory can be made to Community Home Care Hospice of Moore County, 185 South Bennett Street, Southern Pines, NC, 28387.
