" The Color Purple" was such a popular show at the Durham Performing Arts Center last year that the venue has brought it back for a second run today through Sunday.

N.C. talent

One of the key roles in this national touring cast - that of Nettie - is played by Traci Allen, 25, who was born and raised in Winston-Salem. Allen grew up acting and then went on to Howard University, where she graduated with a degree in musical theater in 2007. Lots of relatives are planning to make the trip from the Triad to Durham to see her this week. Nettie is the sister of the main character, Celie.

FYI

Based on Alice Walker's novel and Steven Spielberg's film, the show runs 2 hours, 45 minutes and includes a 20-minute intermission. It's recommended for children ages 10 and older. This production uses non-Equity actors. Check out the production's website at colorpurple.com.
