Woman killed in accident on N.C. 54 in Durham

From staff reportsJune 1, 2010

— A two-vehicle accident on N.C. 54 claimed the life of a Durham woman this afternoon.

The accident happened near Mandy Court and Biscayne Road at 3:25 p.m. Police said a westbound 2005 Mazda driven by Allyn Hubbard Hunt II, 18, of Durham collided head-on with an eastbound 2005 Ford Focus driven by Bettie Hall Boring, 63, of Durham.

A preliminary investigation indicates Hunt's vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. Boring was pronounced dead at the scene. Hunt suffered minor injuries and a female passenger in his vehicle was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of leg injuries. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident, according to investigators.

No charges have been filed at this time and the accident remains under investigation. The accident slowed traffic on N.C. 54 for more than three hours.
