CHAPEL HILL -- A nurse at a Chapel Hill nursing home was indicted today on a charge of murder in connection with a patient's death.
Angela Almore of Cary was indicted on one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Britthaven of Chapel Hill resident Rachel Holliday, according to the state district attorney's office.
Almore, a registered nurse, was also charged with six counts of felony patient abuse related to the provision of morphine to six other Britthaven patients causing their hospitalization.
The Medicaid Investigations Unit of the North Carolina Attorney General's Office working in conjunction with District Attorney Jim Woodall and the Orange County District Attorney's Office sought and obtained the indictments.
Almore was arrested and placed under a $500,000 secured bond at the Orange County jail. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by a Medicaid Investigations Unit Nurse Investigator and MIU/SBI Special Agents working jointly with an SBI Special Agent assigned to the SBI Diversion and Environment Crimes Unit.
