What a joke Wake County school board members have become (or at least those in the current majority). They've proven once again their inability to be competent leaders in their search for a new superintendent. First, they select a company to help in the search that will cost almost twice as much as the next highest bidder. Board member Debra Goldman said it was necessary to ensure getting the best candidate, and that if he or she can streamline our policies and practices, it will be worth it in the long run.

However, the board has also just changed policy preventing the next superintendent from reorganizing central staff or spending money in this effort without board approval. So we are paying someone a lot of money to help find a superintendent who will not have the authority to assemble his or her own staff? What qualified person would want that job? And I suspect our beloved board majority will agree to pay the new superintendent a lot more money. How else are they to persuade someone to work for this group?

We have no one to blame but ourselves. Next time we all need to get off our butts and vote.

Mark Kinlaw,

Holly Springs
