Edna Gibbs Baldasare

Edna Gibbs Baldasare, 88, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Born in Hyde County, North Carolina, she received her RN degree from the Roanoke Rapids Hospital School of Nursing and did post-graduate work in public health at the Medical College of Virginia. She served her country honorably as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. During her career, she held a variety of nursing positions in New York, Washington DC, Georgia, and Virginia. Edna was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Paul Baldasare, Sr. and five siblings.

She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Tom and Elaine Baldasare of Chapel Hill, NC, Paul Baldasare, Jr. and Jane Wettach of Durham, NC; and Jim and Lynn Baldasare of Williamsburg, VA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lillian G. Lane of Kitty Hawk, NC.

Edna’s life will be celebrated at First Presbyterian Church in Durham, NC on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. A private interment of her ashes will be held at the Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
