RALEIGH -- Wake County school leaders announced Thursday that two meetings will be held next week for the public to share what traits they want in the next schools superintendent.
The meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the school board meeting room, 3600 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.
The search firm of Heidrick & Struggles will use the feedback to help develop criteria for the school board to use in selecting a superintendent.
In addition to the public meetings, Heidrick will hold private meetings with groups such as the leaders of the chambers of commerce, the Wake County chapter of the N.C. Association of Educators, the Wake County PTA Council, the Wake Education Partnership and the Civitas Institute.
Del Burns' resignation as superintendent became official last week. He resigned because of his disagreements with the new school board majority's positions, including the elimination of the socioeconomic diversity policy. Donna Hargens, the district's chief academic officer, is serving as interim superintendent.
