RALEIGH -- A Cary man died early Saturday morning after the car he was driving ran off the Beltline and crashed into a guardrail, according to a police report made public Monday.

Eugene Villanueva Gonzalves, 39, of 215 Park St., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the accident report.

Investigators have not disclosed what caused the accident; drugs, alcohol and speeding were all ruled out as factors.

The single-car crash occurred just before 1 a.m. on Interstate 440 near Western Boulevard. Gonzalves was driving a 1999 Lexus northbound when he veered left, crossed the centerline and slammed head-on into the guardrail, Officer R.T. Pereira reported.
