FROM STAFF REPORTS

RALEIGH -- A dozen people turned out Tuesday night at the first of two public meetings to provide feedback on what residents want in Wake County's next schools superintendent.

Most of Tuesday's audience members opposed the school board majority's elimination of the socioeconomic diversity policy and the board's proposed removal of the requirement that the superintendent be an educator.

The board is looking for a new superintendent after Del Burns resigned because of his disagreements with the board majority's plans.

The public has another chance to comment from 10 a.m. to noon today in the school board meeting room, 3600 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.
