I am not a native of Raleigh. I have lived here for 37 years, relocating from Philadelphia through my husband's work. Our daughter went to Hunter, Ligon and Enloe under the magnet program and enjoyed each school. The parents provided the transportation, and we were all glad to do so because we thought the education that they were getting was quite unique. I have four grandchildren and they all go to magnet schools - Poe, Underwood, Ligon and Enloe - and are all thriving beautifully.

I think the "majority" Wake County school board members have not lived here long enough to see the big picture. You cannot move to a new state and mold it into your old one.

The magnet program has worked for quite a few years now, and the kids are thriving. I volunteer when school is in session at Poe and Underwood and yes, the students are red, yellow, black and white, along with various religious beliefs, and along the way every year I fall in love with each and every one of them because of their diversity. Board members, please think about what you are doing!

Lois Foster,

Raleigh
