Q. What is the difference between Spanish rice and Cuban rice? In my Weight Watchers points book, Cuban and Spanish rice have different point values. But I don't know why.

Traditionally, what's called Spanish rice in America is white rice cooked with a tomato sauce. Sometimes it is browned in a little oil first and then cooked with chicken stock and chopped tomato or tomato sauce.

Cuban rice could mean a couple of things. At many Cuban restaurants these days, you get a choice of saffron-flavored yellow rice or white rice. White rice is traditionally served with black beans, where it's called Morros y Cristianos - Moors and Christians, for the black and white combination.

I tried searching on the Weight Watchers website for recipes for each, to see what they are referring to as Cuban rice, but I didn't have any luck.
