The Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina is warning Facebook users about two scams that have popped up on the social networking site.
The "phishing" scams attempt to get personal and financial information, said BBB regional President Beverly Baskin. The two to watch out for now:
Free gift cards: You'll see a message that says if you click "LIKE" you'll get a free Subway or Starbucks gift card. If you do click you'll be taken to a site that asks for credit card numbers and other personal information.
Fraudulent status update: You'll see a post thatuses the name of a familiar company and an enticing headline such as 'OMG!! McDonald's might soon shut down because of this! Warning: Your jaw will drop to the floor!' If you click to read the story or see the video, you'll be taken to another site where you'll be asked to take a survey. Again, it wants to know personal details.
Both links, if clicked on, could infect your computer with spyware, malware orviruses designed to steal any personal information or passwords stored on your computer.
