RALEIGH -- Wake County school leaders began seeking public comments Thursday on four maps that have been developed to help carry out the mandate of sending children to schools in their community.
The school board majority voted earlier this year to end the socioeconomic diversity policy and to divide the county into community assignment zones. A school board committee is now working on the new zones.
School administrators presented four sample maps Tuesday to the board's student assignment committee. The maps are based on things such as seven school zones, 10 planning areas used for developing school construction bond issues, 15 transportation districts and 16 zones for high school assignments.
