Jeff Overton shot an 8-under 62 on Friday to take a four-stroke lead midway through the inaugural Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

Overton, winless in five years on the PGA Tour, shot the low round of the tournament, using wedges on all but one approach shot during a bogey-free round on the Old White course. He was 14 under.

Boo Weekley, finally healthy after tearing a labrum in his left shoulder a year ago, was 10 under after a 63.

Jimmy Walker (64) and double heart transplant recipient Erik Compton (68) were 9 under. Compton, the first-round co-leader, is playing on a sponsor's exemption.

Aaron Baddeley (65), Briny Baird (65), Chris Stroud (63) and Charles Howell III (67) were six strokes back at 5 under.

U.S. Senior Open: Bernhard Langer overcame a shaky front nine with an eagle and birdie on the back nine Friday to take the clubhouse lead at 3 under in the second round in Sammamish, Wash.

After a fog delay of more than two hours brought play to a halt just before 8 a.m. local time, Langer shot a 2-under 68.

The second round was not complete by press time.

Women's British Open: Yani Tseng of Taiwan shot her second consecutive 4-under 68 on Friday, taking a four-shot lead after the second round in Southport, England. The American duo of Brittany Lincicome and Christie Kerr joined Amy Young of South Korea in the chase entering the weekend, all at 140.

Irish Open: Ross Fisher will take a three-shot lead into the third round of the Irish Open after shooting a 10-under 61 Friday.

Fisher had 10 birdies in 12 holes -including six in a row - in a bogey-free round to reach 12-under 130 at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club.

Bruins sign Wheeler

The Boston Bruins signed forward Blake Wheeler to a one-year contract on Friday.

His agent Matt Keator said the deal is worth $2.2 million, the amount of an arbitrator's award given after a hearing on Tuesday.

In two seasons with Boston, Wheeler has 39 goals and 44 assists in the regular season but just one goal and five assists in 21 postseason games. He was one of two players to participate in all 82 regular-season games for the Bruins last season and finished with 18 goals and 20 assists.

Lightning adds Moore: Free-agent center Dominic Moore has signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Moore had 10 goals and 28 points for the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens last season. He appeared in 19 postseason games with Montreal, scoring four goals.

FIFA rules on Irish issue

Sports' highest court upheld on Friday a FIFA ruling allowing players born in Northern Ireland to play international soccer for the Republic of Ireland.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed an appeal by the Northern Ireland federation, which claimed Ireland "poached" teenage forward Daniel Kearns. He was born in Belfast and played international youth matches for Northern Ireland.

CAS upheld FIFA's decision that Kearns had dual nationality and could choose which team to represent. FIFA's rules allow players with dual eligibility to switch sides before they play a competitive senior international match.

Donovan eyes Everton: Landon Donovan says he still wants to return to Everton and the English Premier League.

The 28-year-old U.S. forward scored twice in a 13-game spell for the team in northwest England while on loan from Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy between January and March.

He made the statements after the MLS All-Stars' 5-2 loss to Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Henry says no to French team: New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry says he will never play for France again even if asked by new coach and former teammate Laurent Blanc.

Henry announced after his country's World Cup debacle that he was quitting international soccer after more than 12 years with the national team. He had a French record 51 goals in 123 international appearances.

Cyclist loses appeal

Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin lost an appeal Friday of a decision stripping him of his 2008 Olympic silver medal for doping. He could now be suspended by cycling's governing body and stripped of other race results.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the International Olympic Committee was right to disqualify Rebellin after he tested positive for the banned blood-boosting drug CERA.
