Corks for Kids
The annual two-day Corks for Kids fundraising event to benefit the N.C. Children's Hospital will be Sept. 24 and 25.
At 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24, there will be winemaker dinners at Carrboro's Acme Food & Beverage and Chapel Hill's Bin 54. Tickets for the five-course meals with wine pairings cost $150.
From 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 25, a wine tasting featuring more than 60 wines, appetizers and silent and live auctions will be at The Friday Center in Chapel Hill. Tickets cost $65.
This is the fourth year for the event started by Todd Wielar, owner of the Chapel Hill Wine Co.
Wielar started the fundraising event after his wife, Amy, had complications while giving birth to their daughter, Lily Mae, in 2002. Wielar credits the hospital staff with saving the lives of both his wife and daughter. Last year, the event raised more than $80,000 for the hospital.
