A 36-year-old Raleigh man is facing multiple charges this morning after authorities said he was growing marijuana inside the home he shared with his two young children.

Jeremy David Layton, of 5951 Dixon Drive, was arrested Thursday after authorities found 6.6 pounds of marijuana in his residence, which is across the street from Sanderson High School, according to arrest warrants filed in the Wake County Magistrate's Office.

Authorities also found artificial lights, electronic equipment and chemicals used in the production of marijuana which they said caused a hazard to the children, ages 5 and 9.

In the warrants, authorities said the chemicals and electrical hazards were located in a room adjacent to the children's bedroom.

Layton is charged with one count of manufacturing marijuana, one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, one count of maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing marijuana, one count of manufacturing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and one count of misdemeanor child abuse, the warrants state.

Layton is being held in the Wake County jail this morning on $100,000 bond.
