For years, area fans of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen haven't been able to get their chicken and biscuits fix without buying a plane ticket.
That's because the only Triangle Popeyes has been inside the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. But it seems that's about to change.
Kelsey Schmitt, spokeswoman for the Atlanta chain, confirmed that a new Popeyes will open in Raleigh in November. But she declined to say exactly where.
Still, for sharp-eyed observers, the secret is already out.
A sign on the glass door of the former Hardee's at the corner of New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road in Raleigh bears the Popeyes logo and says, "We are in search of three highly motivated customer service focused managers for our newest location at 3699 New Bern Ave." It would seem construction should start there soon.
The Dim Sum House is open at 100 Jerusalem Drive in Morrisville, serving dim sum seven days a week. Dim sum is a Chinese way of eating like tapas, where customers choose from a large array of small plates and appetizers. Dim Sum House serves with the traditional cart service on weekends and has customers order off the menu during the week. ... Also in Morrisville, Martin's Curry Rice will open Saturday at 9549 Chapel Hill Road.
In Durham's Westgate Plaza at U.S. 15-501 and Westgate Drive, a yet-to-be-named international grocery will move into the old Circuit City space in January.
Owner Li Zhang also owns the A&C Supermarket on South Wilmington Street in Raleigh, but at just under 50,000 square feet, this new store will be much bigger.
Zhang will stock fresh produce and seafood, and products for Asian, Hispanic, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking. There will also be an international food court and coffee shop inside.
In Raleigh's Stonehenge Market, the Wag Pet Boutique is closing. Wag opened in 2003 in downtown Raleigh. The Stonehenge store followed in 2004, and the company closed downtown in 2006. ... Taking Wag's spot at 7414 Creedmoor Road will be pet boutique Unleashed, which will open its second Triangle store there in November.
