Some of the best high school boys soccer teams in the state will play Friday and Saturday in the Brittany for Boys VI Showcase at Wilson's Gillette Soccer Complex.
The field includes 54 teams from throughout the state.
The tournament was created to honor former Wilson Hunt girls player Brittany Willis, who was abducted and killed soon after her high school graduation. Proceeds from the tournament provide scholarships for students in Wilson County.
Among the area matchups Friday are Broughton against Jacksonville, Leesville Road against Wilmington Laney and Green Hope against Asheville Roberson. On Saturday, East Wake faces New Hanover, Panther Creek plays Wilmington Laney and Wakefield faces Wilson Hunt.

Ravenscroft tournament: Ravenscroft is hosting one of the oldest soccer tournaments in the country this week with its 38th Annual Soccer Invitational. Games are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.
The first-round pairings are Wake Christian vs. North Raleigh Christian, Charlotte Latin vs. Wilson Greenfield, Ravenscroft vs. Fayetteville Academy, and Cardinal Gibbons vs. St. David's.

Volleyball players honored: Ashleigh Crutcher of Cary Academy, Kristen Harris of Apex, Alston Kearns of Apex, and Karson Ratliff of Wake Forest-Rolesville have been named to the 381-player American Volleyball Coaches Association's watch list.
The list will be used to select 48 players for the Under Armour All-American team.
Other nominees from North Carolina are Chelsea Davis and Adreene' Elliot of Winston-Salem Mount Tabor, and Caroline Douglas of Greenville Rose.
Husky Invitational: Cary Academy won the inaugural Husky Invitational volleyball tournament at Wake Forest Heritage last weekend. The Chargers defeated Erwin Triton 25-16, 25-24 in the championship match. Cary Academy won all six of its matches during the round-robin portion of the tournament.
Cross country invitational: East Wake High is hosting an invitational cross country meet at Wendell Park on Saturday.
The Early Bird Invitational is expected to have teams from Clayton, Corinth-Holders, Fayetteville Smith, Garner, Harnett Central, Wilmington Hoggard, Greenville Rose, Knightdale, Nash Central, Southern Pines Pinecrest, Rocky Mount, Southeast Raleigh, Scotland County, Hope Mills South View, Fayetteville Sanford, and West Johnston.
Preliminary races begin at 8 a.m.
Site switch: Wake Forest-Rolesville will be the home team on Friday night in its football game against East Wake, but the game will be played at East Wake.
The Cougars were relocated to Wake Forest Heritage for all of the 2009-10 academic year. Wake Forest-Rolesville will be back at its own campus this fall, but will not be able to play at its Trentini Stadium this week.
