JACKSONVILLE -- An Ohio man vacationing in Emerald Isle drowned Tuesday after apparently being caught in a rip current.

Timothy Jackson, 48, of Rushville, Ohio, was unresponsive when bystanders pulled him to shore, and CPR was performed until emergency services personnel arrived. Jackson was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Carteret General Hospital, according to the Emerald Isle Police Department.

Jackson was on vacation with his family and was swimming with his son in the 9400 block of Ocean Drive.

Witnesses reported that Jackson was caught in a rip current while swimming and got pulled into deep water.

The drowning is the third in the Emerald Isle area this summer.
