CASL girls clubs alone at top

Five Capital Area Soccer League soccer teams took the field in Region III Premier League action last weekend and finished with a combined 7-1-2 record.

CASL's three girls squads, the U-15, U-16, and U-17 Spartan Elite Black all claimed sole possession atop the standings.

The U-15 ('95) Girls Spartan Elite Black went undefeated, defeating CFC (Ga.) East Lady Chiefs Gold 4-0 in its first match on Saturday with two goals coming from Mary Gracin Palmer. Rebecca Kenney and Madison West also scored. Sunday, Mary Gracin Palmer scored CASL's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with NASA (Ga.) U-14 Elite.

The U-16 ('94) Girls Spartan Elite Black recorded shutout victories in both of its weekend matches, starting with a 4-0 defeat of ('94) Lake Norman Soccer Club, with goals from Caroline Brown, Cameron Castleberry, Alexis Degler, and Alexis Shaffer. Sunday, it defeated the ('94) NC Fusion Elite 2-0, with Brown and Castleberry scoring. Goalkeeper Taylor Francis earned the two shutouts.

The U-17 ('93) Girls Spartan Elite Black also cruised through the weekend with two shutout victories. The team topped the ('93/94) Georgia Rush Nike Premier 5-0 on Saturday, with goals notched by Katie Thomas, Caroline Gentry, Meghan Poirier, Caroline Lindquist, and Caitlyn Donovan. Sunday, the Spartan Elite blanked the ('94) Atlanta Fire United Elite 2-0, with goals from Meghan Poirier and Caroline Gentry. Goalkeepers Madison Shaw and Annie McHenry put up the shutouts in the net.

CASL's U-15 ('95) Boys Elite and U-16 ('94) Boys Elite, also had Region III Premier League games this weekend.

The U-15 Elite opened its weekend with a 1-1 draw with West Pines (Fla.) United FC Black on Saturday with the lone CASL goal scored by Danny Davis. Sunday, it shut out Miami's U-15 Real Madrid 2-0 getting both from Wyatt Street. The undefeated weekend put the U-15 Elite in second place in the standings.

The U-16 Elite fell in its first match 2-1 to West Pines United FC in CASL's only loss of the weekend. Yousef Asad scored for CASL in the loss.

Elite beat the Atlanta Spurs 3-2 on Sunday as Eric Obrien scored twice and Zane Laughery added a goal.

RBC Fall Classic

This past weekend, 80 classic and challenge-level teams played in the Triangle United Soccer Association's RBC Fall Classic. Championships were awarded in 22 different age divisions:

U-12 Girls Green: Triangle United Gold

U-12 Girls Gold: FSC Force Premier

U-12 Girls White: TFC
