As is my daily custom, I was casting about for pearls of wisdom in the letters to the editor section of The N&O and ran across a real doozy. A professional engineer penned a "withering" note regarding your handling of the recent Point of View article by Orrin Pilkey, Ph.D., regarding his opinion of terminal groins.

I do not have an opinion, medical or otherwise, regarding this condition.

However, I did learn from the letter-writer that there are evidently politically partisan engineers involved.

There are the lefties - those tree-hugging engineers using biodegradable pocket protectors who have no regard for personal property rights or economics - and there then must be those righty engineers who do have such a regard as well as being the champions of truth, justice and the American way.

Well, why not? It seems like partisanship is infecting all phases of life these days. Why not add our leanings to our business cards, stationery and signs.

That way, as we consume services such as plumbing or property surveys, we will know if we are compatible with the providers.
