I suppose that since I'm a Democrat and lover of nature, the writer of the Aug. 31 People's Forum letter captioned "Pilkey propaganda" would label me as a hopeless, flaming liberal. Never mind that I strongly believe in a balanced budget amendment for our state and federal governments and never mind that I strongly believe in individual property rights so long as those rights are not based on greed fed from the public trough.
I do not believe in welfare for the rich, which is what two-thirds of entitlement dollars are spent for in this nation. Coastal hard structures to protect personal property are exactly that. In fact, about all the gigantic expenditures for our fragile coast have been to "protect" investments for the entitled rich.
I understand the writer's sentiments since this is how he makes his living. Nevertheless, engineers have a horrible track record on projects relative to coastal projects from Maine to Florida.
