RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK -- United Way of the Greater Triangle has set a goal of raising $17.5 million this year.

The group announced its 2010 campaign goal at a kickoff breakfast in Durham on Friday. This year's watermark is slightly higher than last year's final tally of $17.2 million.

Breakfast patrons watched a video about Xavier Delrosario, a formerly homeless Raleigh youth now in his first year as a UNC Charlotte student because of help he received from agencies supported by the United Way.

Future events for the campaign include an ice cream social at Mapleview Farm inOrange County on Thursday, a flash dance at Southpoint Theatre in Durham on Friday and a youth festival at Cobblestone Hall in Raleigh's City Market downtown on Sept. 18.

United Way of the Greater Triangle serves Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties.
