Last year during the September shows of New York Fashion Week, Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America teamed to create Fashion's Night Out - a one-night event celebrating all things fashion. Boutiques and department stores stayed open late, and fashionistas mobbed the retailers to hobnob with celebrities and designers while enjoying sales and entertainment.

This year, the event goes global, with Fashion's Night Out parties around the world. In Raleigh, Saks Fifth Avenue at Triangle Town Center mall will host the Raleigh party, 6-9 p.m. Friday.

This year's theme is rock 'n' roll - with blues rock band Old Man Jim providing live music.

Attendees can also enjoy drinks and sushi from Raleigh's Mirage Night Club and Sushi Lounge, dance lessons by Arthur Murray Dance Studios, complimentary bang trims and hair consultations by Primp Salon Bar and makeovers in cosmetics.

Saks Fifth Avenue is at 7700 Old Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. 792-9100, www.saksfifthavenue.com

New lines at Main & Taylor

Cameron Village's Main & Taylor recently added several new lines that are firsts for the Triangle.

Leigh & Luca scarves are woven on centuries-old looms, and feature an exotic Asian- and African-inspired look. They have been worn by celebrities such as the Olsen twins and Naomi Watts and range in price from $100 to $200.

The store also received its first shipments of Gabor shoes - a British label featuring boots with an adjustable shaft. That means ladies with large or very small calves can actually find boots that fit, by adjusting the circumference of the leather around their leg. Main & Taylor has a few styles in now, with more to come throughout the next few months.

Main & Taylor is at 422 Woodburn Road, Raleigh. 821-1556, www.mainandtaylorshoes.com

Emerge fall fashion show

While Fashion Week is in full swing in New York, local designers will hit the runway in Raleigh during Emerge's Fall into Fashion show, 7 p.m. Sunday at Mirage Night Club and Sushi Lounge. Area designers Dollface, Leluna Star, Julkee, Zac Schell Designs and special guest Martin Chadwick will debut their fall/winter collections during the event.

Tickets and VIP packages start at $15 and are available at emergefallfashionshow.eventbrite.com. A portion of the night's proceeds will benefit Haven House Services, a local nonprofit group that helps at-risk youth and their families. Mirage Night Club and Sushi Lounge is at 400 N. West St., Raleigh. For more information, visit www.emergefashionnc.com.

The latest at Target

Known for its youthful silk-printed blouses and dresses, Target is aiming its latest designer collaboration, Tucker for Target, to hit stores and online Sunday. Designed by Gaby Basora, the line features skirts, trenches, dresses and other pieces in colorful boho-chic prints. The collection is priced from $20 to $80.

Local award winner

Mandy Becker, owner of Swagger Gifts in Cary, recently picked up a Retailer Excellence Award at the annual Gifts and Decorative Accessories gala in New York. Becker's shop won in the category "Marketing Achievement: Branding and Integrated Marketing," recognizing its efforts in blogging and social media.

Swagger Gifts sells jewelry, handbags, accessories and other gift items. The store is at 2425 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary. 877-792-4437, www.swaggergifts.com
