At a time when communities across North Carolina are trying to encourage better health through an active lifestyle, I am trying to imagine why you thought nearly two full pages dedicated to corsets would be a good idea ("Corsets come out," Aug. 30 Life, etc. Section article).

I understand your Monday Life section is focused on "Style" and the basic definition of a corset you printed was true. What your article did not reflect was information on the deformation corsets historically caused. You also failed to mention how difficult it is to draw a deep breath in a laced corset.

We need to get our young women "hipped" to taking care of themselves through better eating and active living. They probably would not need a binding force to make them feel better. And by binding force, I could be referring to a corset. Actually, I am referring to the unhealthy focus on what is considered fashionable "style."
