Carolyn Marie Caggia of Cary has been awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

For her Gold Award project, Carolyn, a junior at Green Hope High School, hosted a booth at the Museum of Natural Science's Reptile and Amphibian Day to raise awareness of endangered sea turtles. Visitors to her booth stamped a scroll to ban gillnet fishing that she later presented to several state legislators.

Carolyn, the daughter of Vince and Nancy Caggia, is a member of Troop 1961, led by Nancy Caggia and Marge Ypema. In addition to Girl Scouting, Caggia is in her school's band and environmental club.
