CHARLOTTE -- Police say the woman they found inside a southeast Charlotte school Monday after a burglar alarm was triggered was naked and intoxicated.

Janice Shields, 58, of Chesnee, S.C., is scheduled to appear in court today on charges of breaking and entering and assault. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Police say they responded to Jay M. Robinson Middle School, on Ballantyne Commons Parkway, about 4 a.m. Monday after an alarm sounded. Officers said they discovered a broken window in the school, then found a woman inside.

The woman could not tell police why she was inside the school, according to police reports.

Shields was arrested and released on bond, after promising to make her court appearance.

Police say the assault charge stems from an incident that happened before the school break-in.
