The best player in Kentucky's top-ranked recruiting class, Turkish center Enes Kanter, received more than $100,000 in cash and benefits over three years from the professional team he played for here, according to the team's general manager.

In an interview last week, the general manager of Fenerbahce Ulker, Nedim Karakas, said the club had given banking and housing records to the NCAA that showed Kanter received benefits that could jeopardize his amateur status for college basketball.

"I am sorry for telling this for Enes, but we cannot lie if someone asks the whole story, we cannot hide," Karakas said.

Karakas said that Fenerbahce provided housing to Kanter and his family for more than three years, provided them with food and pocket money and paid Kanter a salary of more than $6,500 a month during his final season.

UConn files response to investigation: Connecticut says it has filed a response to NCAA allegations of major recruiting violations in its men's basketball program, but won't make it public this week.

Tuesday was the deadline for the Huskies to respond to the eight infractions cited by the NCAA in May.

UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy says the response fills up several three-ring binders and some information must be redacted to comply with state and federal privacy laws. He says the university plans to post the response on its website once that has been done.

Muncy would not summarize the response or say if the school has self-imposed sanctions.

The NCAA allegations center around improper calls and text messages between recruits and coaches.
