Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Offshore boats are catching lots of white marlin with the fleet catching 240 on Tuesday. Dolphin are also still in the mix. Inshore boats have continued to catch bluefish and Spanish mackerel. False albacore and amberjack have also been caught on all-day trips. The head boats have caught bluefish and flounder. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Bluefish have been caught all over the island. In Rodanthe and Salvo, Spanish mackerel, puppy drum, mullet and spot have been reported. Avon Pier has also seen croakers and sea mullet. There's puppy drum at Cape Point. Contact: Frank & Fran's 252-995-4171, www.hatteras-island.com.

Ocracoke

Earl's effects were felt for days, but by Sunday, there were reports of puppy drum, bluefish and sea mullet. Inshore boats report gray trout, bluefish, puppy drum and a few red drum. Contact: Tradewinds Bait & Tackle 252-928-5491, www.fishtradewinds.com.

Cape Lookout/

Bogue Inlet

Red drum and croakers have bit in the surf. Spanish mackerel were disrupted by the storm but are returning to clear water. Inside fishing was disrupted, but there's still drum and trout around. The big red drum bite in the Pamlico Sound is hot. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

A hole south of Jolly Roger Pier has produced red drum in and over the slot. Bluefish are biting early in the morning. Pier action includes bluefish, puppy drum, speckled trout, a few pompano, spots at night and mullet. In the sound, red drum are on topwaters early in the morning. There's also been flounder reported. Wilmington/

Wrightsville Beach

Flounder and red drum continue to bite in the backwaters, surf and over nearshore reefs. Spanish mackerel and pompano have been biting in the surf. Nearshore, king mackerel, dolphin and sailfish are slow. Bottom fishing has turned up grouper, amberjack and sea bass. Wahoo have improved in the Gulf Stream, where dolphin and billfish have also surfaced. Contact: Tex's Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Red drum and black drum have been reported in the backwaters. Pier action has quieted, but Ocean Crest Pier has reported Spanish mackerel, white mullet, bluefish, pompano, flounder, sheepshead, puppy drum and speckled trout in the last couple of days. Bottom fishing has produced grouper. Bad weather has limited offshore opportunities, but white marlin, blue marlin and sailfish were caught. Dolphin catches were declining. Freshwater

Falls Lake

Largemouth bass fishing has improved, though most fish have been on the small side. They've been in shallow and deep water. Crappie are moving to the mouths of the creeks, into laydowns along bluff banks. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 249.71, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Kerr Lake

Largemouth bass fishing is slow on crankbaits and soft plastics in 10 to 15 feet. Crappie are in deep and shallow water. Striped bass action has slowed. Blue catfish have been around Grassy Creek and up to the river, where there's been flathead catfish action. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 297.63, full pool 320. Jordan Lake

Largemouth bass have been in 12 feet of water on topwater baits and plastic worms. Crappie are in 18 to 22 feet of water around brush piles and other cover. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 215.46, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Lake Wheeler

Several largemouth bass were reported on Labor Day. Contact: Park office 919-662-5704

Shearon Harris Lake

Largemouth bass have been on deep points. Crappie continued to bite at night in water as deep as 27 feet. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.crappie.com.
