HILLSBOROUGH — An ample amount of rushing from Brent Burnette and a helping dose in the air from Cam Pappas in the first half helped Cedar Ridge run away with its 35-14 victory against visiting Cardinal Gibbons on Friday night.
Burnette chewed up 163 yards on the ground on 20 carries with three touchdowns, and Pappas passed for 117 yards and accounted for two touchdowns to lead the Red Wolves (5-1).
By halftime, both Burnette and Pappas had reached the century mark in their respective categories. Burnette had 113 yards on 14 carries while Pappas had 111 yards on five completions.
The Crusaders (4-2) went deep into Red Wolves' territory on two occasions in the first half, but neither produced points.
Cardinal Gibbons couldn't overcome its anemic passing game. Crusader quarterbacks combined to go 10-for-26 for 68 yards and three interceptions through three quarters.
