Margaret Carolyn Mauney (Maggie), 60 of 3809 Borland Road, Efland, NC, died on September 20, 2010 following a long illness. At the time of her death she was a resident at the Guilford Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, NC.

She was a native of Fayetteville, NC and daughter of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. (deceased) John D. Mauney, Jr. She is a graduate of Fayetteville High School. She attended the NC Governor’s School and Lenoir-Rhyne University.

She was an accomplished technologist and assistant to faculty members of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill until the time of her disability due to Parkinson’s Disease. Throughout her life, she was a friend to animals, especially Chihuahuas. She always referred to her dogs Maus, Buttercup, Toby, and Twister as her “fur-kids”, and donated much of her time in support of the Friends of Orange County Animal Shelter.

Survivors include her father, the Rev. Dr. John D. Mauney, Jr., Chapel Hill, NC. Three brothers, Dr. John David Mauney, III of Newland, NC, Prof. William M. Mauney of Hickory, NC, and Richard Benjamin Mauney of Fletcher, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
