George Clifton Exum, Sr.

On September 24, 2010, George Clifton Exum, Sr. "Bossman" passed. Bossman was the first licensed African American general contractor in NC, a 25 year veteran teacher, a successful entrepreneur, a building developer, a community leader and a role model.

"Bossman" graduated from Florida A&M College as a star athlete and student, married his college sweetheart, Marguerite Girardeau Exum and began a life of enterprise, mentoring, service and leadership in the Wake County Community that spanned over six decades.

He is survived by daughters, Annette Exum and Ouida Exum; son, George Exum, Jr.; grandsons, George Christian Exum III and George Clinton Exum; daughter in-law, Louise D. Exum; siblings, Betty Bethea of Charlotte, Wilford Exum of Warrenton, Charles Exum of Raleigh; loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Wake: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Carlton L. Gray Funeral Home, 2810 Kidd Rd., Raleigh NC.

Viewing 11:00 a.m. Saturday, funeral 12:00 noon Saturday, 10/2/2010, St. Paul AME Church, 402 W. Edenton St.
