TFC, CASL teams claim tournament titles

Area teams from the Triangle Futbol Club and the Capital Area Soccer League brought home tournament titles this weekend from the Columbus Day Classic in Burlington's Springwood Park.

It was entirely a TFC affair in the U-14 Boys Navy Division, as TFC ('96) Navy defeated TFC White 5-0 in the title game.

In the U-13 Boys Navy Division final, TFC ('97) White fell 1-0 to Guilford United FC.

In the U-10 Boys Navy Division, TFC Milan lost to Burlington Soccer Club Academy Cardinal 6-1 in the final match.

In the U-14 Girls Division, TFC ('96) Girls Navy won the championship match 4-0 over the Guilford United FC Red.

In the U-13 Girls Navy Division, TFC Navy claimed the championship with a 4-3 win over ACS Elite Orange.

In the U-12 Girls Navy Division final, TFC Sol won 2-0 over Lake Norman Soccer Club Lady Black.

In the U-11 Girls White Division final, CASL's WF United Blue won 2-1 over TFC Freedom, and the TFC Lynx won 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout over the CASL Cyclones in the U-10 Girls White Division.

In the U-14 Girls White Division, the TFC ('96) Girls White squad fell in the final 4-3 in a penalty shootout to the Twin City Youth Soccer Association's Lady Twins Silver.

CASL's ('97) Premier White Girls team lost its first match to AFC Elite Orange 8-0, but it rebounded with a 2-0 win over TFC White on goals by Sarah Hedgecock and Mikayla Marsich.

CASL Premier White goalkeeper Rachel Witkin earned the shutout, and the team ended the weekend with a 3-0 win over the Rocky Mount Youth Area Soccer Association's Cyclones. Leah Mills scored two goals, Sarah Hedgecock added another, and Witkin was credited with the shutout in goal for a second-place finish in the '97 girls' top Navy Group.

Discovery Cup

Two TFC girls teams, the '93 and '94 TFC Navy Girls, played in last weekend's Discovery Cup in Germantown, Md.

The '93 Navy Girls beat Maryland Rush 2-0 on goals by Kylie Tawney and Indi Cowie, followed by a 1-0 win over Florida's Clay County with a goal by Ashley Clark. In its last group match, TFC Navy defeated New York's East Meadow, with Indi Cowie scoring both goals. The team advanced to the semifinals today.

The '93s beat New Hyde Park 5-0 in a semifinal match and claimed the championship with 2-1 victory over Clay County (Fla.) in Monday's final.

The '94 Navy Girls fell 1-0 to McLean (Va.) in its opening match but bounced back with a 1-0 win over Virginia Rush on a goal by Callie McClain. The '94 Navy Girls finished off the weekend with a 0-0 draw against SAC of Maryland.

Va. Beach Columbus Day tournament

CASL's U-11 Boys Premier White finished its tournament weekend undefeated with four wins, including a 3-0 victory in the final against Prince William Soccer Inc. Jonathon Spear, Ashton Crowder and Ronald Evans scored in the final, and goalkeeper Robby Deckelbaum earned the shutout.

CASL's U-12 Boys Premier also defeated a PWSI team 3-0 in the final, with two goals from Louis Difilippo and one from Caleb Bratager. Goalkeeper Jean-Andre Madrid earned the shutout.

CASL Boys U-16 Region III

CASL's '94 Elite defeated the Highland Football Club 3-0 on Saturday on goals by Tyler Van Hall, Evan Deyacasa and Kyle Rhode. Goalkeepers Bardia Asefnia and Grant Bishop teamed up for the shutout.
