One would think that Jeannette K. Doran of the N.C. Institute for Constitutional Law - apparently writing for Art Pope of Americans for Prosperity, the John Locke Foundation, and the right wing of the N.C. Republican Party - would support film industry tax incentives that are designed to create jobs and support small businesses right here in North Carolina. But that would make too much sense ("Film-making 'incentives' in focus," Oct. 7 Point of View article).
Instead, Doran and Pope have worked tirelessly to use the film tax incentives as a wedge issue, attacking anyone and everyone. Pope and his gang of bullies have tactically positioned themselves to attack moderate Republicans, Democrats of all political beliefs and now, film industry tax incentives and their supporters.
Film jobs are high-paying, good jobs and provide employer-paid health insurance and a pension so workers can retire with dignity. Film jobs are "green jobs." Film jobs do not require municipalities to build new roads or schools. Film jobs are the cornerstone of a creative-class economy that could provide immediate relief for thousands of unemployed citizens.
