Mertys LaRue Ballard Beverly

Mertys Beverly, 93, a longtime resident of Fayetteville, NC and more recently a resident of Carillon Assisted Living in Fayetteville, NC passed away on Sunday October 31, 2010. She passed peacefully with her family and Hospice members by her side.

Born on January 26, 1917 to the parents of Mary Lou Miller and Ronald Earl Ballard in Evergreen, Alabama. She was an only child. Later her family moved to Wilmington, NC and it was there that she met her husband, Thomas Bennett Beverly.

Mertys was very active in her community and churches throughout her life. She served as an Elder and Choir Director and pianist in the Sherwood Presbyterian Church. In her later years she moved her membership to Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and sincerity for others. She was an avid gardener and often could be found sitting on her porch with her cat and admiring the many flowers she had planted. Her love for books and the joy of reading she would say helped her to travel the world.

Predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Bennett Beverly, who passed away in 1984 and her oldest son, Ronald Jefferson Beverly, who passed away in January 1969.

Mertys is survived by a son, Ted LaRue Beverly and wife, Peggy'of Fayetteville, NC; and two daughters, Julia Bennett Lewis and husband, Alex of Raleigh, NC and Marylou Ella Dozier of Fayetteville, NC.

Grandchildren include: TL Beverly of Greensboro, NC, Ben Beverly and wife, Angel of Pleasantview, Tennessee, Anissa Nixon and husband, Shane of Burlington, NC, Andy B. Adamchik and wife, Carmen of Roebuck, SC, Denise Dozier of Orlando, Florida, Eric Dozier and wife, Felipa of Fayetteville, NC, Ronda and Carl Beverly-Strange of Steadman, NC. Great-grandchildren include: Aaron Adamchik, Grace and Jack Nixon, Tyler Beverly, and Paulina Dozier.

Memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, Gideon International or Mt. Pisgah Bapist Church.

We praise God for the gift he gave us in allowing us to have a wonderful mother.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel with the Rev. Todd Blake, officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 till 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
