From the Happiness is a Warm TV blog, staff writer Brooke Cain writes about TCM's Ava Gardner tribute.
November is Ava Gardner Month on the Turner Classic Movie channel.
Throughout the month, TCM will be showing three dozen Ava Gardner films, from the well known ("Barefoot Contessa," "On the Beach," "Show Boat") to the lesser known ("Kid Glove Killer," "Calling Dr. Gillespie," "This Time for Keeps").
The movies will be shown Thursday and Friday nights throughout the month. Kick off the month Thursday night with Gardner's 1946 star-making turn in "The Killers" with Burt Lancaster at 8 p.m., followed by "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman"; the musical "Show Boat," which notoriously did not use Gardner's lovely singing voice; and "Knights of the Round Table," in which Gardner plays Guinevere to Robert Taylor's Lancelot and Mel Ferrer's King Arthur.
Gardner was born in Johnston County in 1922, and there's an Ava Gardner Museum in downtown Smithfield (325 E. Market St.). You can get more information on Gardner at the museum's website ( www.avagardner.org) or by calling 934-5830.
