Beat Florida State, 37-35
What worked: T.J. Yates (437 yards, three touchdowns) surpassed the 400-yard barrier for the second time this season and continues to develop a chemistry with junior Dwight Jones (eight catches, 233 yards), who has emerged as a bona fide receiving star. Yates has lost Greg Little (his favorite target in 2009), tight end Zack Pianalto (his favorite target in 2010) and running back Johnny White but continues to produce big numbers with few turnovers.
What needs work: Kick coverage has been a season-long issue because of the depth issues caused by injuries and the NCAA investigation. Greg Reid's 50-yard kickoff return for FSU after UNC took the lead with 55 seconds nearly cost the Heels the win.
What's next: No. 16 Virginia Tech, the only ranked ACC team in the Top 25 and the only ACC team unbeaten (5-0) in conference play, visits Kenan Stadium on Saturday (3:30 p.m., WTVD, WCTI). UNC (3-2 in the ACC), still has an outside shot at the Coastal Division title but needs a second straight win over the Hokies to set the dominoes in motion. UNC beat the Hokies 20-17 last year in Blacksburg.
