In a Nov. 4 article, Chris Malone stated that the results of the Wake County commissioner election meant that the public has given the school board a mandate to move ahead on community schools and end diversity-based student assignment.
As a person who voted Republican for the Wake County commissioners race, I can assure you that in no way did my vote mean that I was giving my stamp of approval for what the Republican side of the school board is doing, and I thought that was an incredibly arrogant statement. I think that Malone should wait until the school board terms are up for re-election and then we'll know whether the public is for or against their policies.
My daughter and I went to see "Waiting for Superman," and that movie showed me what damage a community-based assignment can bring - for years and generations to come. I guess since John Tedesco has damaged his public image so badly with his immature behavior at the school board meetings, they've now decided Malone would be a better spokesperson. But with the arrogance that Malone is showing, I think they need to pass that baton again!
