Duke senior forward Kyle Singler is a hazard to anyone who sits near the floor when Duke is playing.
On Sunday night he crashed over two rows of seats behind the baseline chasing an errant Nolan Smith pass against Princeton. Tuesday's game hadn't reached the first media timeout when Singler dived over press row into the student section.
Memo to my supervisor: Will the company buy me a new laptop if Singler destroys the one I'm using? At this point, that seems inevitable.
Sophomore Ryan Kelly of Raleigh made his first career start Tuesday night as junior Miles Plumlee came off the bench for Duke.
Kelly scored seven points and grabbed three rebounds in 16 minutes. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said he wasn't demoting Plumlee or promoting Kelly, but was just trying a new combination.
With 239 career wins in his 15th season, Charlie Coles ranks second in Miami (Ohio) history in terms of total wins.
His immediate predecessor holds the Miami record for winning percentage. Herb Sendek, who left Miami to coach N.C. State in 1996, won 70.8 percent of his games at Miami, posting a 63-26 record.
One thing that's not often mentioned that Duke will miss this season is 2009-10 senior Brian Zoubek's ability to set effective screens.
At 7 feet 1 and a solid 260 pounds, Zoubek wiped out more than his share of defenders for Singler, Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer last season.
