N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien say today he expects no further action taken by the ACC related to the incident between Wolfpack receiver Jarvis Williams and North Carolina linebacker Kevin Reddick in Saturday's game in Chapel Hill.
Williams, O'Brien said, would play Saturday at Maryland.
"I expected (Williams) to be ready after the game," O'Brien said. "They told me on the field it was a flagrant foul and that's not a disqualifying ... it was obviously disqualifying for the rest of the game but I don't expect to hear from the conference one way or another.
"We're going forward and he's going to play."
Williams and Reddick were ejected after a scrum at the back of the end zone after Owen Spencer's diving touchdown catch for State in the third quarter.
ACC associate commissioner Mike Finn said Saturday that the referee, Brad Allen, would file a report after the game. If Allen had ruled that either player was fighting, a suspension for the next game was possible; if Allen had cited the players for flagrant fouls, there would be no suspension.
O'Brien credited his team with again displaying good discipline against the Tar Heels in a contentious rival game and praised the work of the officiating crews.
"I think the officials did a great job," he said. "They've got control of the game. What I'm really pleased is, the last two years we've been punched (by UNC players). And our kids haven't retaliated.
"I can only coach my football team. You get into that situation and their first reaction is to retaliate but we haven't done it, which shows the discipline we now enjoy and the character we have in our program. Because those things ... everyone knows there's talk in a game. ...
"We took (tight end) George Bryan out of the game Saturday because he was on the verge of an incident. But I'm proud of the way our kids have handled that situation after being punched two years in a row."
After last year's game in Raleigh, UNC's Donte Paige-Moss took a swing at State's Sterling Lucas.
UNC coach Butch Davis said last year that Moss pushed away a player who was "kind of taunting him and in his face" on the field after the Wolfpack's 28-27 win.
O'Brien took issue with Davis' comments, replying last year that "in no way, shape or form did I see any of our players exhibit inappropriate behavior."
