Mason Page Thomas, Jr.

Former Judge and retired University Professor: Mason Page Thomas, Jr. of Raleigh died on November 23, 2010.

Mason was born in Charlotte, NC on January 21, 1928. Mason was the son of Mason Page Thomas and Jane Grimes Thomas, both of whom predeceased him in death. He received his BS from the University of NC at Chapel Hill in 1949. Mason attended Law School at the University of NC where he earned his JD degree and graduated in 1951. Mason had a 30-year career in state and county government where he was involved in programs affecting children and families. Mason was Judge of Wake County Domestic Relations and Juvenile court from 1959-1964. He joined the staff of the Institute of Government, University of NC at Chapel Hill in 1965 where he continued his interest in family services and became a professor of public law and government.

Mason retired in 1995 and continued to live in Raleigh after his retirement.

Mason is survived by his four children including: Mason Page Thomas III of Charlotte, Anne Thomas Neal of Charlotte, Elizabeth Grimes Kelly of Chapel Hill and Mary Garland Hattman of Chapel Hill. Mason is also survived by his six grandchildren and his brother, John G. Thomas of Charlotte.

His services will be held December 4th at 1:00 at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas located at 2205 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC. Interment will follow at the Historical Oakwood Cemetery at 701 Oakwood Ave. Raleigh.
