I noticed in a Dec. 4 news story that Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker has once again stuck his nose into the Wake County school board's business, joking that the NAACP's decision to bring so many people to town and pump up the local economy was perhaps the only positive thing he could think of that the current school board has done.

It makes you wonder whether this is the mayor's assessment of his wife's performance on the school board.

Perhaps someone should remind him that his job is mayor, and his wife is on the school board. The mayor wasn't too successful in his recent attempts to usurp the responsibility of the school board. He should let his wife fulfill the responsibility on the board that she was elected to, and he should focus his efforts on performing the duties as mayor for which he was elected.

Apparently Meeker is thinking about a sixth run for mayor. I suggest that he run for school board, since he seems to want to run the show there.

James Coleman Pittman,

Cary
