RALEIGH — Police charged a Fuquay-Varina man this weekend with the rape of a three-year-old girl in his care, court records show.
Fuquay-Varina police have charged Alonzo Quentin Powell, 21, of 300-H Ashewyck Commons Court with one felony count each for the rape of a child, indecent liberties with a child, sex offense - parental role and first degree sex offense, according to warrants filed Saturday at the Wake County Magistrate's Office.
Investigators think the offenses began Oct. 15 through Nov. 5, court records show.
Police stated in the arrest warrants that Powell, had "assumed the the position of parent in the home" where the child resided.
Investigators have accused Powell of engaging in vaginal intercourse and a sexual act with the toddler, court records show.
Powell is in custody at the Wake County jail where he is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bail. Powell, because he has been charged with a sex offense or crime of violence against a child, has also been ordered to stay away from the home, temporary residence, school and business of the alleged victim. He was ordered to not communicate with the child, court records show.
